There are several steps to take to reduce spam...
- Never provide an email address on a web site whose
ownership you cannot trust
- Use a "disposable" email address if
you have to supply an email address in risky circumstances
- Never select "Unsubscribe" from a spam
received (this simply proves that the email address
is valid)
- Remove email addresses from your website (spammers
"harvest" addresses from websites)
- Do not have a "catchall" mailbox unless
you can limit delivery to a series of "acceptable"
addresses (otherwise all manner of randomly-addressed
mail will arrive)
- Use a hosting company which filters email at server
level for spam and viruses:-
- You gain a first-line defence against viruses
- Your mailbox doesn't get full of junk
- Mail downloads are faster - less mail to collect
- Reduces time wasted manually checking through
the junk for valid mail
Solution
- We provide spam/virus filtering at server level
- see http://www.proteus.lu
- We can rework a web site to prevent address harvesting.
- We provide "restricted" catchall mailboxes.
